Two men lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Gurugram on Thursday evening after a heavy truck ran over them. The incident happened between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM on Rajesh Pilot Road, near Ghata village in Sector 58.
The victims were Masrul Ali, 26, from Malda in West Bengal, and Chandan Kumar, 33, from Bihar’s Gaya district. Chandan lived in Vasant Kunj, Delhi. Masrul had booked a bike taxi in Delhi to reach Sector 59.
Police officials said Masrul and Chandan were traveling towards the Ghata traffic signal from the Gurugram-Faridabad road. The stretch had damaged portions. While riding on the extreme left side, they encountered a tractor that suddenly came from a connecting road and drove against traffic. Inspector Vinod Kumar, Station House Officer of Sector 56 police station, said the truck driver swerved abruptly to avoid the tractor but failed to notice the motorcycle in front. The truck carried iron rebars, which made braking difficult.
The truck crushed both men under its front wheels. Masrul died on the spot. An ambulance rushed Chandan to Sector 10A civil hospital, but he died on the way.
Local residents alerted the police soon after the crash. Emergency teams arrived quickly. The truck driver fled, but police later caught the tractor driver. Police also seized the truck, tractor, and motorcycle. Families of the victims have been informed and will arrive in Gurugram for legal formalities such as filing an FIR and conducting autopsies.
This accident highlights the rising road safety concerns in Gurugram. Fatal accidents increased by 30% from 2020 to 2021. More than a million vehicles run daily on Gurugram’s major roads, raising accident risks. The region remains among the top ten in India for deadly crashes.
Authorities have urged stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better road maintenance. For now, the families and communities of Masrul Ali and Chandan Kumar mourn their sudden and devastating loss.
