How many of you have thought about visiting a city completely? I mean each lane, each shop. Very of you, right? We often end up visiting the top attractions only. But tourist places in Delhi are quite different from any tourist destination in India.
Delhi does not only have heritage but also something that we can count on later. So, Am I talking about memories? Oh, yes. I am talking about memories. Once you visit a place, it will always stay in your mind.
I know I sound like a travel freak who knows nothing but traveling. I know not all of you have the same eye as a traveler, and you might not be as astonished to see places as I did when I was in Delhi.
You know one of the best things about tourist places in Delhi is that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to visit those. Some places are actually free. You don’t believe me?
Okay, can you guess the lowest price of the tickets? It’s just 25-35 Rupees. Yes, you have heard it right. This is what I’m talking about. This is where the beauty of India lies. You don’t need to spend a lot to be in a great place or visit a great place.
The narrow lanes of Kolkata can give you something amazing to see that you will never forget. So, that being said, let’s begin our journey.
India Gate
Yes, you already knew that I was going to start off with India Gate. I mean, Come on! I cannot forget this amazing monument. Thousands of soldiers and their blood still remind the Indian people about the great sacrifice.
So, without confusing you more, let me give you a brief introduction to history. So, India Gate was made in memory of the 13,516 soldiers who died in the war of 1919.
Yes, it was constructed by the Britishers. Later, Amar Jawan Jyoti was added after the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971.
When I visited the place, I had no idea that I would be so amazed to see this place. I knew nothing about the history. It was the India Gate and the sunset there. Haha, yes, Sara Ali Khan vibes, you know.
India Gate is a spot that is seen in almost every Bollywood movie. Sara is shooting there, and she is enjoying the vibe too!
Chandni Chowk
You know, when I was little, I always used to hear about this place on the radio, in movies, or even in songs. I always used to think about what is so special about this place and why people are so obsessed with the place.
But when I finally visited the place, I realized that it was one of the most amazing places that I have ever been to. If you love shopping, you will absolutely love the place.
Yes, all that lehengas and food that you see on TV or Instagram is here only. Oh, I just remembered that a man is selling Bhindi Samosas in Chandni Chowk.
Haha! Sorry! I didn’t mean to upset you, but in case you want to try it.
Okay, now, do you know why it was named Chandni Chowk or moonlight square? Because in Delhi Sultanate, there was a prominence of silver objects. That’s why it is named Chandni Chowk.
Another perception says that the place used to be drenched in moonlight, and that’s why the rulers decided to name it like that.
So, between these two? Which one do you find more relevant or fascinating? I think both are good. One is factual, and the other one is romantic.
Rashtrapati Bhavan
I know you are an apolitical person and like to stay away from political stuff. But what I’m talking about now is not an ordinary political spot. It has history and dignity.
Yes, this is the home of the President of India. There are more than three hundred rooms, and you will be amazed to see each one. I loved visiting each one.
Apart from that, the garden part of Rashtrapati Bhavan is just spectacular. Each week there are some parades organized, and each time, the soldiers are changed.
Note: It might not be possible to visit the entire Bhavan in one day. So, you keep a couple of days for that. If someone asks me which place is one of the most spectacular tourist places in India, I would definitely name Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The gigantic area it was situated in, the amazing architecture, and the overall environment will make you realize that you are actually a part of something great and something powerful.
It’s the best place for dads as they are the political spectators, right? So, plan a trip now!
Purana Qila
A new discovery is on the way! Yes, the government has started the excavation on Purana Qila as they believe that there might be some traces of the great Mahabharata era.
For those who don’t know, Purana Qila is one of the oldest and most aesthetic places in Delhi. I will not talk about history and all. You can already find that on Wikipedia.
I will just talk about how I felt. I felt old. It was remembering the time when people actually lived in this qila and all the beghums there.
The photographs came super cool, and I had a peaceful time there.
Hauz Khas
The footprints of urbanization have reached here too. Hauz Khas Fort was built around the Hauz Khas, which is a kind of well to supply water to the medieval city of Siri.
So, are there any interesting things that people can do? Well, of course. It has become one of the best places for photoshoots or some peaceful dates. The place has several parts that you will love to explore, the madrasa, and the mosque, all of which are just full of unknown stories that you will love to explore.
Yes, you can take the metro.
Bahai Temple
Do you know which place I first visited when I visited Delhi? It was Lotu Bahai Temple. Yes, you can call me a boring person for that, but I am super religious and love the process of worship.
But the temple I am talking about is not a religious temple. Rather it was created to symbolize religious acceptance and tolerance in India.
Yes, it is a non-religion temple. The architecture is just amazing. When it comes to tourist places in Delhi, most people like to choose places that they can go to with their families.
This temple is educational and inspirational for adults as well as children. What can be better than teaching the younger ones about religious tolerance while they are on their holidays?
For those who don’t know, Bahai is actually a religion that does not believe in the supremacy of any religion over another. There are some Bahai temples built around the world, and one of them is here.
It does not matter what your faith is; you can go and pray here. It reminded me of what India actually stands for and why people still praise this country. You should give it a visit.
Bangla Sahib Gurdwara
Bangla Sahib Gurdwara is one of the most popular tourist places in Delhi. What’s so special about it? It’s actually a bungalow. Yes, that’s why it is named this way.
The bungalow was actually dominated by the Sikh guru by a Hindu Rajput King. Just like any other Gurdwara, Bangla Sahib is also known for its hospitality and care for people.
It has rooms that can fit more than 500 people at once. Those who want to stay in ac rooms with privacy can also make the booking.
This Gurdwara is known for actively participating in healthcare and people’s welfare. When I first entered, my soul was just filled with gratitude and love for religion and unity.
Most of the sikh gurus were born or worked under Hindu Rajas, and Bangla Sahib Gurdwara is another example of this brotherhood that is hard to be broken. Whenever you visit the place, keep in mind that this is a holy place, and you need to follow some rules.
Things like wearing modest clothing, washing your hands and feet, covering your head, etc., are the major rules. Accept the prashad with both hands, and don’t throw it away. Always eat it.
Red Fort
Do I really need to explain the beauty and the historical significance of Laal Qila or the Red Fort? Yes, it was the same place from where India was announced as an independent nation.
Apart from that, the architecture and the very grandeur add more charm to it. If you really want to see something great that is a part of our great history and spectacular present. Red Fort is your place.
Do you know who built this? Yes, it was the same ruler Shah Jahan and the same architect who built the Taj Mahal.
National Museum
I don’t care whether you like it or not. If you don’t visit this museum, you will miss out on a lot of things. The journey of the national art museum started with an exhibition initiated by London.
I know, when you visit the London Museum you will be seeing a lot of Indian things. But this is how things work sometimes. India was under British rule, and they took some art to their country.
But this museum will remind you that we still have a lot to show off. We still have a lot to see and appreciate.
You know, I have seen a lot of people avoiding museums because they don’t like history. But let me tell you that the National Art Museum of Delhi is one of those tourist places that are never missed.
People who don’t even know 10% of the arts go there. Why? Because they just know that this is something worth watching. So, I’m telling you the same thing. You will be amazed to see the paintings, the sculptures and a lot of other things that will blow your mind.
Do nothing; just observe like you observe the art of the temple walls.
Sarojini Nagar
Does anyone want to go shopping? If yes, please don’t think of any other place than Sarojini Nagar. The market came into more popularity after Akash Gupta’s stand-up.
Haha! I still remember the words. “Brother! Jeans!.. Brother!” Oh my god! It was hilarious. You can have the latest fashionable clothes at almost half price. You just need to have one skill, and that is bargaining skills.
I know it sounds frightening for a moment, but if you want to survive in Delhi or, in fact, India. Bargaining is the key. Once you reach there, you will be able to know how big and versatile the Sarojini Nagar Market is.
Whenever I go there, I spend thousands of rupees buying clothes that I might never wear, but what should I do? I just can’t control myself. So, if you are someone like me, I warn you, buy things that you will actually wear.
The influencers that you see with top-class fashionable clothes are all Sarojini Nagar clothes. Yes, I told the secret. But don’t tell anyone. Go and fill your bag and rock your new outfits. Don’t forget to check them before buying, though.
Wrapping Up
So, what have you decided? Will you take the help of the Delhi metro for your trip, or would it be something different? See, I’m a budget traveler, so I like to do everything on a budget.
Metro will make you reach places faster. So, grab your camera, grab your friends, look your best, and just explore. Don’t forget to try the soya chaap and, obviously, the Afghani Chat.
So, everything is set. I might see you at these places. These places will test your photography skills too. So, those wannabe photographers, be prepared to capture some unforgettable moments.
