The Violet Line Metro: Connecting Delhi to Faridabad

The Delhi Metro’s Violet Line has become a lifeline for thousands of commuters traveling across Delhi and Faridabad. Stretching nearly 47 kilometers, it begins at Kashmere Gate in Old Delhi and runs through the bustling heart of the capital before crossing into Haryana and ending at Raja Nahar Singh station in Ballabhgarh. Opened in phases between 2010 and 2018, the line passes through key areas such as Central Secretariat, Nehru Place, Kalkaji, and Badarpur, while also serving cultural landmarks like Connaught Place and the Lotus Temple.

One of the highlights of this corridor is the “Heritage Line,” which runs between ITO and Kashmere Gate. This section is especially popular among passengers for its proximity to historic sites and scenic views. The Violet Line has 34 stations in total, offering convenient access to residential neighborhoods, business districts, and tourist attractions.

Its importance is further amplified by multiple interchanges with other metro lines. Kashmere Gate connects it with the Red and Yellow lines, Central Secretariat links with the Yellow Line, Mandi House ties into the Blue Line, Lajpat Nagar links with the Pink Line, and Kalkaji Mandir connects with the Magenta Line. These junctions make the Violet Line an essential part of the wider metro network in Delhi-NCR.

The fare structure on the line is distance-based, with smart cards and QR code tickets available for passengers. Weekend and holiday discounts make it more affordable for regular riders. Operating hours are extensive, with trains running from 6 a.m. to 11:35 p.m. on weekdays and starting as early as 4 a.m. on Sundays. Trains arrive every five minutes during rush hours and every 10 minutes during off-peak times.

By connecting Old Delhi, central business hubs, and the rapidly growing city of Faridabad, the Violet Line has transformed urban commuting. It not only eases travel to jobs and schools but also improves access to cultural and commercial spaces. With Delhi’s continuous expansion, the Violet Line is expected to undergo further upgrades to meet rising demand.

For many residents, the Violet Line is more than just a transit system—it is an integral part of daily life, offering speed, connectivity, and convenience across two states.
