Sarfaraz Khan Smashes Maiden T20 Century on Comeback After 2 Years

Sarfaraz Khan announced his return to T20 cricket in style on Tuesday. The 28-year-old Mumbai batter scored a stunning unbeaten 100 off just 47 balls against Assam in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26 at Ekana Stadium B, Lucknow.

After more than two years away from T20 cricket, Sarfaraz walked in at No. 3 when Mumbai lost early wicket of Ayush Mhatre. He started slowly but soon exploded. He hit 8 fours and 7 powerful sixes. Moreover, he added a quick 50-run stand in only 27 balls with Suryakumar Yadav.

His knock helped Mumbai reach a big total of 220/4 in 20 overs. Sarfaraz reached his first-ever T20 century with a single off the fifth ball of the last over.

This century comes at the perfect time. First, the IPL 2026 mega auction is very near. Second, Mumbai will soon miss Suryakumar Yadav and possibly Shivam Dube because of India duties. Therefore, Sarfaraz gave a strong reminder of his six-hitting power and match-winning ability.

Before this game, Sarfaraz had played 96 T20 matches but never crossed 67. Now, in his 97th game, he finally got the milestone.

Meanwhile, other India players also shone on the same day:

  • Ishan Kishan hit 93 (50 balls) for Jharkhand
  • Devdutt Padikkal scored an unbeaten 102 (46 balls) for Karnataka

However, the day clearly belonged to Sarfaraz Khan. His explosive return will make IPL teams sit up and take notice ahead of the auction.
