The residents demand better metro and bus services in New Gurugram and along the Dwarka Expressway. They recently met Rao Inderjit Singh, Member of Parliament and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), to discuss their growing transport problems. The key issues were extending the Delhi Airport Metro line to Gurugram and launching a direct bus route between Gurugram and Yashobhumi in Dwarka Sector 24, Delhi.
Residents from several housing societies and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) attended the meeting. They said that thousands of families living along the expressway face daily struggles because of poor public transport. Colonel (retired) Ravinder Passi, president of NBCC Heights in Sector 89, said, “Public transport remains inadequate, even though many families have made their homes here.”
He explained that a Metro extension and new bus routes could greatly improve the situation. These steps would reduce car dependency, cut traffic congestion, and help lower pollution levels. Many people also face last-mile connectivity issues. It is hard for them to reach their homes from the nearest metro or bus stop. As a result, most residents use private cars, which leads to more traffic and poor air quality.
In reply, Rao Inderjit Singh assured residents that the government is working on their demands. He said that talks are already underway with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to extend the Airport Express Line from Dwarka Sectors 22 and 23 to New Gurugram. “The detailed project report (DPR) for the extension is under preparation,” he confirmed.
Singh also shared that he had written to Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal to speed up the planning. He said Gurugram’s fast growth needs a strong public transport system. The system should connect the Dwarka Expressway and the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) directly with Delhi to make daily travel smooth and efficient.
The idea of a new bus route between Gurugram and Yashobhumi received strong support. Singh agreed that it would offer commuters a low-cost and reliable option. He said regular buses could reduce the number of cars on the road and make travel easier for office-goers.
Residents left the meeting feeling hopeful. Sunil Sareen, a resident of Emaar Imperial Gardens in Sector 102, said, “The Airport Metro extension will be a game changer for New Gurugram.” He added that it would cut travel time to Delhi and the airport and ease traffic on the expressway.
Another resident, Rajesh Mittal from Mapsko Casa Bella in Sector 82, said the plans show the community’s unity. “Connectivity is the backbone of development,” he said. “The government must focus on infrastructure that supports Gurugram’s rapid growth.”
Gurugram has seen fast urban expansion in the past few years. Many new residential and commercial areas have developed along the expressway. However, transport services have not kept pace with this growth. Because of this, people rely mostly on private vehicles, leading to pollution and longer travel times.
Experts say that combining metro, bus, and feeder services is the best solution. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have shown how strong transport networks make urban life easier. If Gurugram adopts similar systems, it could move closer to sustainable urban mobility.
At the end of the meeting, Rao Inderjit Singh promised to keep raising the issue with both central and state officials. He also said he would monitor the progress of the metro extension and the new bus route. With these steps underway, residents feel hopeful that improvements will happen soon.
In conclusion, the residents demand better metro and bus services highlights the urgent need for better connectivity in New Gurugram. Extending the Airport Metro and adding new bus routes will not only make travel smoother but also improve air quality and daily life for thousands of residents in this rapidly developing region.
