23 People Charged in Noida Police Constable Murder Case

The Ghaziabad police have moved decisively in the Noida Police Constable murder case, filing a chargesheet against 23 people suspected of involvement in the killing that took place in Nahal village in May.

On May 25, a Noida police team entered Nahal village to arrest Qadir, a man accused of stealing items from a car in Noida. The theft had been reported on May 21. Qadir, who has about 22 previous cases of theft and robbery against him, is a known offender. However, when the police attempted to arrest him, some locals resisted. During the clash, someone shot Constable Saurabh Kumar in the head. Investigators later confirmed that only one bullet was fired and that it both entered and exited Kumar’s head.

According to Detective Chief Police (DCP) Surendra Nath Tiwary, officers have not yet determined who pulled the trigger. Since the village had no CCTV coverage, the police could not collect direct evidence. Nevertheless, they arrested several suspects who carried firearms at the time. The chargesheet, which the police submitted in court, lists 22 residents of Nahal village and one individual from Dhabarsi village.

The accused now face several serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy, rioting, unlawful assembly, and criminal intimidation. In addition, the police charged them under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, which targets organized crime. They also invoked the Criminal Law Amendment Act to ensure stricter punishment for violent offenses.

This case highlights the difficulties police encounter while tackling crime in densely populated areas. On one hand, the presence of firearms among civilians makes enforcement riskier. On the other hand, violent resistance to police operations raises concerns about the safety of law enforcement personnel and the public. Consequently, officials argue that tough legal measures remain essential to protect communities and hold criminals accountable.

As the investigation progresses, the murder of Constable Saurabh Kumar continues to draw public attention. The outcome will not only determine justice for the slain officer but may also shape future policies on crime prevention and community safety in Uttar Pradesh.
