A serious accident on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Tuesday morning left eight people injured, including four police officers. The crash occurred near Rajgarh in the Alwar district and involved a police van carrying seven officers and a civilian car with a man, two women, and four children.
Emergency services responded quickly, transporting the injured to hospitals in Alwar. Doctors later shifted one police constable, who required critical care, to SMS Hospital in Jaipur for advanced treatment. The remaining seven victims, including the four injured officers, were admitted to hospitals in Alwar for medical care.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is part of India’s National Expressway Network, a key infrastructure project designed to improve connectivity across states, including Punjab. However, Punjab continues to face high road accident rates, with more than 9,000 cases reported in 2021. This highlights the ongoing challenges in road safety and enforcement.
Authorities in Punjab and Chandigarh have been working to improve traffic management and road safety. Chandigarh’s police department, in particular, has earned national recognition for its strategies in managing traffic and preventing accidents.
The crash on the expressway serves as a stark reminder of the risks on Indian roads and the urgent need for stronger safety measures. Officials stress that while infrastructure development is crucial, public awareness and adherence to traffic rules are equally important in reducing accidents.
Communities and law enforcement agencies continue to push for safer roads, with the hope that improved safety measures and responsible driving will help prevent tragedies like this in the future.
