Have you ever been to Fatehpuri Masjid in Delhi? If not, please visit after reading this article because, in this article, I’m going to give you some specific details about the history of this Masjid.

Moreover, if you have already been there, no worries, you can still go there. But the experience will be completely different from the first one. This time, you will be able to feel the history behind the great walls and great gates.

Fatehpuri Masjid is one of the most popular mosques in Delhi. Yeah, the mosque is beautiful, but the surrounding areas also contribute to the beauty.

No, I’m talking about things like rivers or mountains or another tomb. It is a market. Wait, what? A market? How on earth can a market enhance the beauty of a historical Masjid?

Fatehpuri Masjid was built by one of the begums of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. Later, when the East India Company came, they auctioned it for 19000 rupees. Yes, it was right.

Rai Lala Chunnamal was the one who preserved the Masjid until the Independent government took it into their property. His family still lives in Chandni Chowk.

There are three great gates of this Masjid, and each of them opens in different directions that lead to different markets and attractive places. One of them is the market called “Khari Baoli.”

It is Asia’s biggest spice market.

Visiting Hours

At its core, This is a religious place. So, you can visit anytime between 5 am – 9 pm. No worries, even if you are not from the same faith, you are allowed to visit.

Apart from being a religious place, it is also a historical place, and when it’s about history, there is no discrimination. The Masjid itself is a fusion of Indian and Persian architecture.

See, even the architecture of this country has diversity. Another kind of beauty! You can also have a tour guide who will help you to visit the place and tell you some interesting stories related to the place.
