Starting today, passengers on the Delhi Metro will face higher ticket prices. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has revised its fare structure effective Monday, August 25, 2025. Most riders will now pay between ₹1 and ₹4 more, depending on the distance. On the Airport Express Line, fares will rise by up to ₹5.
The new fare chart is as follows:

12–21 km: ₹43, up from ₹40

21–32 km: ₹54, up from ₹50

Above 32 km: ₹64, up from ₹60
DMRC explained that the increase is necessary because of rising operational and maintenance costs. Therefore, the revision helps ensure the metro system remains both reliable and efficient. However, the fare hike will directly affect daily commuters who rely on the metro to avoid heavy road traffic.
Meanwhile, nearby Mohali, part of the Chandigarh Tricity area, is also seeing rapid growth. The region’s population has increased by about 25 percent over the last decade. Consequently, there is a growing need for stronger public transport networks. Chandigarh, recognized in the Swachh Survekshan 2021 survey as one of India’s cleanest cities, continues to highlight its commitment to livability.
Looking ahead, authorities have planned 26 metro stations in the Mohali and Chandigarh region. These projects will improve connectivity and reduce the traffic burden on roads. Thus, while the fare hike in Delhi may concern some commuters, it is a necessary step to sustain metro growth.
