Tragic Death of Woman Sub-Inspector in Ghaziabad Road Accident

A tragic accident in Ghaziabad late Sunday night claimed the life of a young woman police officer. Sub-Inspector Richa Sachan, 25, died near Carte Chowk in Shastri Nagar after her motorcycle collided with a speeding Maruti Wagon-R.

Richa, who joined the Ghaziabad Police in 2023, was returning home from duty around 12:57 AM. She rode her Royal Enfield motorcycle towards Mahendra Enclave when a community dog suddenly ran onto the road. While trying to avoid the animal, she swerved into the path of an oncoming Wagon-R. The collision hit her with severe force. Another sub-inspector witnessed the crash just after Richa left and immediately rushed to help before calling the police.

They took Richa to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. The impact caused fatal injuries to her head and hands.

The Wagon-R driver fled the scene, but police later tracked down the car and seized it. Officials from the Kavi Nagar police station launched an investigation. Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Verma said they would review CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events. Richa’s brother filed a complaint, and police registered an FIR against the driver under Section 281 (rash driving on a public way) and Section 106(1) (causing death by negligence).

Road safety remains a pressing issue in India, where speeding and sudden obstacles, such as stray animals, often lead to fatal accidents. Despite ongoing awareness efforts, incidents like this highlight the need for stricter enforcement and better infrastructure.

The death of Sub-Inspector Richa Sachan left the Ghaziabad Police and the local community in grief. Colleagues and residents remember her as a dedicated officer who served her community with commitment. The tragedy has sparked fresh calls for stronger road safety measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
