Chief Minister Gupta Visits Yamuna Bazaar: No Flood Risk for Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta visited Yamuna Bazaar to meet residents worried about the rising waters of the Yamuna River. Many said water had already entered their homes and streets. During her visit, Gupta assured people that Delhi faces no immediate flood threat.

She explained that the situation is under close watch. The water level peaked near 206 meters in the morning but did not rise further. “The situation is under control,” she said. Gupta expressed confidence that the river will begin to recede soon. She also predicted that normalcy would return within 48 hours.

The government has stepped in with essential services such as food supplies, clean drinking water, and medical support. Temporary shelters have been arranged in local schools. These schools now provide meals and beds for displaced families. Many residents welcomed the move, saying it makes them feel safer.

Heavy rainfall in the region has pushed the river to this level. The Hathinikund Barrage in Haryana had to open all 18 gates. The release of water increased the flow into the Yamuna, raising its level in Delhi.

Gupta stressed that the state government has strong emergency plans. Officials are monitoring the river around the clock during the monsoon. She urged residents to stay alert, report any sudden rise in water, and use the emergency helpline if needed.

The crisis has also brought the community together. Neighbors are sharing food and other essentials. Local groups are organizing distributions of supplies to support families in need.

Flooding during the monsoon is not new for Delhi. Rapid urban growth and climate change have made the problem worse. Even so, Gupta reassured people that with government action, community effort, and constant monitoring, the city will remain safe.

She repeated that there is no immediate threat. She asked residents to stay cautious and prepared as the Yamuna slowly returns to normal.
