BSES Rajdhani Power Expands Battery Storage in Delhi

In a major move to strengthen Delhi’s power infrastructure, BSES Rajdhani Power expands battery storage across by introducing advanced Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at four new locations in South and West Delhi. These sites include Malviya Nagar, Dwarka, Matiala, and Goyala Khurd, as confirmed by BRPL officials on Wednesday.

Earlier, BRPL successfully launched a BESS system in Kilokari, South Delhi, which now supports electricity for nearly 100,000 residents. Building on this success, the company plans to expand its reach so that more neighborhoods can enjoy a stable and reliable power supply.

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has approved these new installations, which will have the following capacities:

  • Shivalik, Malviya Nagar: 12.5 MW / 25 MWh
  • Matiala (G5): 32 MW / 64 MWh
  • Dwarka (G7): 4 MW / 8 MWh
  • Goyala Khurd: 7 MW / 14 MWh

According to BRPL, this expansion aims to promote renewable energy and create a more flexible, sustainable, and smart electricity network. The new systems will help manage power more efficiently while reducing dependency on traditional energy sources.

These advanced storage units will bring several key benefits, such as:

  • Better energy management and smooth transition to renewable sources
  • Improved grid stability and performance
  • Enhanced reliability for consumers
  • Lower power purchase costs

Financially, BRPL expects to generate savings of about Rs 38.97 crore per year over the next 12 years. This calculation includes reduced transmission losses and improved operational efficiency.

One of the most important features of the BESS technology is its ability to provide instant backup power. During blackouts or emergencies, the system can supply uninterrupted electricity to hospitals, data centers, and other critical services. Once the grid power returns, the batteries automatically switch back to charging mode.

These systems are designed to handle both daily energy fluctuations and sudden outages, ensuring consistent power flow even during peak hours. This innovation plays a crucial role in Delhi’s broader mission to modernize its energy infrastructure and support sustainable urban development.

The BESS expansion also aligns with India’s renewable energy goals. As the country moves toward solar, wind, and other clean power sources, cities like Delhi are focusing on grid modernization to handle growing energy demands. This project directly supports the government’s efforts to fight climate change and cut carbon emissions.

Moreover, BRPL’s initiative highlights how public-private partnerships can bring technological innovation to India’s power sector. By investing in smart energy storage, BRPL is setting an example for other utilities to follow in their efforts to improve grid resilience and promote clean energy solutions.

With growing electricity needs in Delhi, this development ensures that residents experience fewer outages and better quality service. The company’s focus on modernization shows its commitment to building a reliable and eco-friendly power network for the future.

In conclusion, BSES Rajdhani Power expands battery storage across marks a major step in improving Delhi’s power reliability and sustainability. This initiative will not only make electricity services stronger but also support India’s long-term vision of a greener, energy-secure nation.
