Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wedding his longtime partner Jodie Haydon on Saturday, making history as the first Australian leader to tie the knot while serving in office. The 62-year-old prime minister wed the 46-year-old financial services worker in an intimate ceremony. Consequently, this milestone moment marked a significant personal achievement during his political career.
The wedding took place at The Lodge, Albanese’s official residence in Canberra. Additionally, the ceremony featured a small gathering of close family and friends. Albanese’s son, Nathan, attended, along with Haydon’s parents, Bill and Pauline. Furthermore, several government officials joined the celebration, including Treasurer Jim Chalmers, Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Finance Minister Katy Gallagher.

The couple exchanged vows they had written themselves. A celebrant from the NSW Central Coast officiated the ceremony. Meanwhile, Haydon walked down the aisle with her parents to the Ben Folds song “The Luckiest.” She wore a beautiful dress designed by Sydney’s Romance was Born. Similarly, Albanese chose a suit from MJ Bale, and their wedding rings came from Cerrone Jewellers in Leichhardt, Sydney.
The ceremony included charming personal touches. Haydon’s five-year-old niece, Ella, served as the flower girl. Moreover, the couple’s dog Toto acted as the ring bearer, adding a delightful moment to the proceedings. After exchanging vows, the newlyweds walked down the aisle to Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours).” Subsequently, they shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s “The Way You Look Tonight.”
“We are absolutely delighted to share our love and commitment to spending our future lives together, in front of our family and closest friends,” the couple stated. Albanese also shared a simple one-word post, “Married,” on social media, along with a video showing confetti falling around them.
The romance began more than five years ago at a business dinner in Melbourne. Interestingly, Haydon caught Albanese’s attention by shouting “Up the Rabbitohs,” referring to his beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team. Later, she reached out to him through social media. “I slid into his DMs,” Haydon revealed in an interview, explaining they both loved the same football team and the inner west area.
Albanese proposed on Valentine’s Day in February 2024 on the balcony at The Lodge. He designed a special engagement ring for the occasion. Therefore, the wedding came more than a year after the proposal and six months after his landslide re-election victory in May 2025.
The couple will honeymoon in Australia next week, from Monday to Friday. All wedding and honeymoon costs are being paid privately by Albanese and Haydon. Haydon currently works for the NSW Public Service Association and serves as chief patron of the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
Albanese divorced his former wife, Carmel Tebbutt, in 2019 after nearly two decades of marriage. Since then, Haydon has accompanied him at numerous public events, overseas travel, and election campaigns.
