New Delhi, October 1: The Congress Party has strongly raised concerns about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on the ongoing violence in Gaza. They argue that this silence shows a lack of moral courage and betrays India’s historic values. On social media platform X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said Congress criticizes PM Modi for silence, calling it a “total failure of leadership.”
Ramesh accused the Prime Minister of avoiding comment on the “horrific atrocities” in Gaza. He claimed Modi’s quietness aims to appease U.S. President Donald Trump and support Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Referring to Trump’s newly announced 20-point plan for Gaza, Ramesh questioned India’s support, asking where the Palestinian people fit in this new system.
He further demanded to know the roadmap for a Palestinian state, noting that 157 UN member countries have already recognized Palestinian statehood. India itself had recognized it in November 1988, making this silence even more troubling.
Ramesh called Modi’s silence “moral cowardice.” He said, “The PM has ignored the killing of tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza. This is a betrayal of all that India has stood for in the past.”
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) also expressed deep concern in its recent meeting. They argued that India, once respected as a moral leader and champion of post-colonial nations. And has now been reduced to a “silent spectator.” The committee resolution stated that India’s foreign policy has become “morally tainted” due to this unwillingness to act.
Meanwhile, on the same day, PM Modi welcomed President Trump’s 20-point plan. He said the plan could bring peace, security, and development for both Palestinians and Israelis. Modi expressed hope that all parties would back Trump’s idea, though uncertainty remains over whether Hamas will accept these terms. The plan suggests a temporary governing board in Gaza, led by Trump, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair also playing a role.
In Indian cities like Mohali and Chandigarh, many citizens are closely following Gaza’s developments. Public interest in global issues remains high, and people recall India’s earlier role in defending Palestinian rights. Several citizens feel the government must show stronger leadership in line with India’s historic stand against injustice.
The ongoing debate shows how India’s foreign policy is being questioned. Citizens and leaders alike are calling for India to once again become a strong voice for human rights and peace.
In conclusion, while Modi’s endorsement of Trump’s plan signals a diplomatic choice. And the Congress criticizes PM Modi for silence and demands action that reflects India’s legacy of justice and moral responsibility on the global stage.
