New Delhi, October 1: In a major breakthrough, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has achieved success with the arrest of Gautam Yadav, a man who had escaped for over a decade. Delhi police capture robbery suspect after 12 years, ending a long hunt linked to a violent robbery in Kirti Nagar in 2013.
Gautam Yadav, 32, belongs to Jamui district in Bihar. He was declared a Proclaimed Offender and carried a reward of ₹20,000 on his arrest. Police records showed that he managed to evade capture for more than ten years while moving across different states.
The case goes back to March 8, 2013. A woman in Kirti Nagar reported that her servant, Gautam Yadav, along with three others, forced their way into her home. They tied her up, gagged her, and looted gold jewellery, including bangles, a chain, and a ring. This shocking crime created fear in the community.
Police acted quickly after the robbery and arrested two of Yadav’s accomplices, Suraj Yadav and Suresh Yadav. However, Gautam escaped and disappeared. For years, the case stayed open, and investigators worked on leads without success.
To track him down, a special team was formed under Inspector Mahipal, guided by ACP Satendra Mohan and DCP Harsh Indora. Their dedication finally paid off when they received a tip about Gautam’s presence in Jaipur’s Gangeshwar Nagar.
On September 30, the police launched a well-planned operation and caught Gautam Yadav. DCP Harsh Indora praised his team, saying the arrest showed their patience, sharp field skills, and consistent efforts to bring a fugitive to justice.
During questioning, Gautam admitted his role in the robbery. He confessed that he helped the gang enter the woman’s house and tie her up before stealing her valuables. After the crime, he fled Delhi and lived in different states like Chennai, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
To survive, Gautam took up odd jobs, including driving an e-rickshaw. He avoided visiting his home village during the day to reduce the risk of arrest. With little education, he had fallen into crime at a young age in Delhi, where he became connected with other criminals.
The arrest of Gautam comes at a time when robbery cases in India are a rising concern. A Punjab State Police report in 2020 showed a 15% increase in such incidents compared to the previous year.
