Three minors arrested for stealing from the home of famous boxer Mary Kom in Faridabad shocked residents this week. The theft took place on Wednesday while Mary was in Meghalaya for a marathon. Police said the boys, aged 15 to 16 and school dropouts, broke into her Sector 46 house and escaped with valuables.
The boys stole two branded watches and three LED TVs. They stuffed the items into bags and ran away. On Saturday, a vigilant neighbor checked her CCTV footage and noticed three young men running with heavy bags. She immediately alerted the police, which gave the investigation a boost.
Acting on the lead, police at Surajkund Station filed a case and tracked the boys within a day. Officers caught them on Monday and recovered all the stolen goods from their homes. Officials confirmed that the minors will now appear before the Juvenile Justice Board, while investigators continue to gather more details.
A police spokesperson explained that the boys had dropped out of school and turned to theft for quick money. Moreover, their background has raised concerns about how easily juveniles are slipping into crime in growing cities.
In addition, this case also added to worries about Faridabad’s safety. In 2020, the city logged a crime rate of 184.98 per 100,000 people, almost double that of Chandigarh at 95.68. Although Faridabad ranked second-best in Haryana for livability in 2019 under the Ease of Living Index, the rising crime numbers show that development alone cannot ensure safety.
Mary Kom, one of India’s most respected athletes, continues to inspire millions with her achievements. Yet, at the same time, the robbery at her home proves that even prominent figures remain vulnerable to crime. Therefore, the case highlights the urgent need for stronger vigilance and effective policing.
Meanwhile, the quick action of the neighbor and local police stands out as a positive example. Their cooperation ensured the recovery of valuables and the arrest of the suspects. However, the case also reminds citizens and authorities that Faridabad needs stronger safety measures to protect its residents.
In conclusion, three minors arrested for stealing from Mary Kom’s house reflect both the risks of rising juvenile crime and the value of community-police cooperation. With united efforts, Faridabad can work toward safer neighborhoods and reduce incidents like this in the future.
