A shocking encounter unfolded in Ghaziabad where mentor of Slain Anil killed during a police shootout. The gangster, Balram Singh, faced more than 34 criminal cases, including extortion and robbery. Police said his name had become feared in the crime world because of his violent activities.
According to Additional DCP Crime Piyush Kumar Singh, Balram Singh had a long criminal record. Only two days before his death, he demanded ₹50 lakhs from a restaurant owner in Nehru Nagar. In August, he also forced an iron dealer to give him ₹18 lakhs. These repeated extortion cases showed how deep his criminal network had spread.
The incident happened at around 7:50 p.m. during a police check in Ghaziabad. Officers stopped Singh and three associates, but instead of surrendering, the men opened fire. Reports suggest they fired nearly 20 to 22 bullets at the police. Officers fired back with 8 to 10 shots. During the exchange, one man was injured while the others fled the scene.
The injured suspect was soon identified as Balram Singh. Police rushed him to a hospital, but doctors declared him dead. Three police constables and the SWAT team leader also sustained injuries in the shootout. One bullet struck a police officer’s bulletproof jacket, while others damaged a police vehicle.
Balram Singh was known as the close associate and mentor of gangster Anil Dujana, who himself died in a police encounter in Meerut earlier this year in May. Singh’s death, therefore, marked another major strike against organized crime in Uttar Pradesh.
Just days before this incident, police killed two more gangsters, Ravinder from Rohtak and Arun from Sonepat, during another shootout in Tronica City, Ghaziabad, on September 17. These men, linked to the Rohit Godara and Goldy Brar gang, had earlier fired shots at actress Disha Patani’s house in Bareilly on September 12.
The series of encounters highlight a tough stand by police against gang violence. Punjab and Uttar Pradesh both face growing concerns about gang wars, and Punjab records some of the highest numbers of cases under the Gangsters Act. Cities like Mohali, in the Chandigarh Tricity area, have grown quickly in recent years, but this growth has also given rise to organized crime networks.
Officials point out that law enforcement has no choice but to respond strongly. Police operations like these not only weaken criminal groups but also send a warning that crime will not go unchecked. Communities, especially in NCR and Punjab, are demanding stronger action to secure their neighborhoods.
The fight against gangs requires both police dedication and public cooperation. While challenges remain, these operations show progress. The police now hope to rebuild public trust and restore peace by dismantling criminal networks.
