New Delhi, September 18: India Post and BSNL team up to expand mobile services through a one-year memorandum of understanding (MoU). The agreement brings together India Post, with its trusted reach, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the government-owned telecom company, to make mobile services more accessible across India.
This partnership will especially help rural areas, including Punjab, where people often face poor connectivity. Many citizens in these regions struggle to get reliable mobile networks, and this move aims to reduce the digital divide.
India Post operates around 1.65 lakh post offices nationwide. Under the agreement, these post offices will act as points where people can buy BSNL prepaid SIM cards and recharge their mobile services. This step ensures that even those living in remote villages can easily access telecom facilities.
BSNL will supply the SIM cards and also provide training to post office staff. India Post will handle customer registrations and transactions. Together, both organizations plan to make mobile services safe, simple, and affordable for everyone.
Earlier, a trial run in Assam showed positive results. The program helped many people in remote villages connect with family, friends, and essential services. Based on this success, the government is now expanding it across India.
Manisha Bansal Badal, General Manager for Citizen Centric Services at India Post, said the partnership combines the wide reach of post offices with BSNL’s telecom expertise. She emphasized that this effort will deliver affordable connectivity to citizens who need it most.
Both organizations will monitor the project closely. They will check records every month and follow cybersecurity standards to protect user data. This attention to detail is expected to build trust among rural users who often feel left behind in the digital space.
BSNL recently launched its new 4G network across India. This network supports the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, which focuses on a self-reliant India. With stronger connectivity, citizens will gain better access to education, health services, and e-governance platforms.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia spoke about BSNL’s revival. He explained how the company once faced collapse under the previous government. Now, with new reforms and investments, BSNL is not only surviving but also expanding its services.
