Gwalpahari’s Long Wait for Water Supply
The residents of Gwalpahari, a growing area in Gurgaon, have waited more than 20 years for canal water. Now, their wait is coming to an end as Gwalpahari to Finally Receive Canal Water through a new pipe network that will soon connect the area to the city’s main water supply.
A New Water Pipeline
The plan includes a 450mm diameter pipe that will carry treated water from the Chandu Budhera water treatment plant. This water will travel through the Sector 72 boosting station. The GMDA, or Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority, has invited tenders to lay a 7.6 km long pipeline.
The goal is to make the boosting station functional by June next year. To connect the two boosting stations, a 5.8 km pipeline is needed. In 2012, a portion, measuring 2.2 km, was already completed by HSVP. Now, an additional 3.6 km will be built to finish this part of the project.
Adding More Water Distribution
In addition to the main pipeline, GMDA plans to build a 4 km secondary distribution network. This distribution network will deliver water from the boosting station to homes and businesses. The pipes in this network will range from 300mm to 600mm in diameter. Officials stated that this boosting station will cater to both current and future water needs, as the area continues to develop rapidly.
The Rising Demand for Water
Gwalpahari is becoming increasingly popular, with many upscale residential complexes. These include:
- Valley View Estate
- Paras Quartier
- Ireo Gurgaon Hills
- Krish Provence
- ASF Insignia
- Vatsal Valley
As more people move to Gwalpahari, the demand for water has risen sharply. The projected population in the area is expected to reach 43,516 by 2031. This number could grow to over 51,700 by 2041. Currently, the city’s master water supply line only goes up to Sector 58 and 59. The new Gwalpahari boosting station will connect to this existing line.
Project Timeline and Challenges
GMDA CEO Shyamal Misra is optimistic about the project timeline. “This project will improve water distribution and help reduce dependence on private sources like tubewells and tankers,” he said. His aim is to ensure residents receive a steady supply of treated drinking water.
The Gwalpahari boosting station is vital for this project. Civil infrastructure work began last August. This includes building a 4,000-kilolitre underground water tank, a sump, and a pump house. The cost for this work is Rs 4.3 crore. Initial plans set the station’s completion for March 2026. However, the deadline has now moved to June next year.
History of the Project
This project began taking shape in 2019 but faced many challenges. Legal issues over land acquisition halted progress for almost three years. Finally, in 2023, GMDA received the green light to start the tendering process after resolving these land disputes.
The Future of Water Supply in Gwalpahari
This project is an important step for Gwalpahari. It shows how local authorities are working hard to improve the water supply and meet growing demand. When complete, this pipeline will help ensure that all residents have access to safe and clean water.
As more people make Gwalpahari their home, a reliable water supply will be crucial. This upgrade will support the community’s growth and help improve living standards. The completion of this new pipeline and the boosting station will bring long-awaited relief to the area’s residents. They can soon look forward to having enough water for their needs. 🌊
