In 2023, Gurgaon has experienced a troubling number of road accidents. So far, there have been 113 accidents on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, known as NH8. Sadly, these accidents have resulted in 68 deaths and left 102 others injured. Cause of Accidents

One major factor contributing to these accidents is the delay in alerting authorities about parked vehicles. When vehicles are left stationary, they can cause traffic jams and accidents. To address this problem, police have introduced a new system to track parked vehicles.

New Tracking System

The police now receive alerts if any vehicle is stationary on the expressway for more than five seconds. This is part of a special monitoring cell set up by the traffic police. This cell is located in the Sector 28 traffic tower and is designed to improve response times to potential traffic issues.

Daily Traffic Volume

Every day, over 300,000 vehicles use the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. With such heavy traffic, quick actions are essential to prevent congestion and accidents. However, two police officers are specifically assigned to the monitoring cell. They utilize advanced software to follow traffic on the highway closely.

Immediate Response

Once the monitoring cell identifies a stationary vehicle, the officers quickly inform the traffic in-charges or zonal officers. This means that they can remove the vehicle before it causes further congestion or traffic jams. The goal is to keep traffic flowing smoothly in Gurgaon and Delhi.

Morever, DCP (Traffic) Rajesh Mohan mentioned, “We are getting technical analysis done of the red spots in Gurgaon and are working to decongest these points to ease traffic.” The data collected at the control room for NH8 can help by providing timely responses to avoid jams.

Previous Success During the Kanwar Yatra

In a recent initiative during the Kanwar Yatra, police effectively diverted thousands of kanwars to internal roads, reducing congestion on NH8. This approach resulted in zero fatalities or law and order issues, a significant achievement for the traffic police.

Improving Road Conditions

To help facilitate this diversion, the concerned authorities were asked to repair several damaged roads near the Rajokri-Sarhaul border. This road leads to Dhanchari camp, which is government land. The traffic police in Gurgaon are implementing this new monitoring system and improving road conditions to make the roads safer for everyone.

Successful Traffic Management

Traffic cops reported that after the road was cleaned and maintained, pedestrians moved easily. Kanwariyas used the service road near Ambience Mall and an underpass to avoid causing disruptions near Chowk. This comprehensive plan proved effective, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
