Model shares scary experience after a horrifying incident in Gurgaon, where a man exposed himself while she waited for a cab near Rajiv Chowk on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. The incident happened on August 2, around 11 am, and left the 30-year-old Jaipur-based model shaken.
She explained that the masked man circled her, stared constantly, and then unzipped his pants before masturbating. At first, she froze in shock. Soon after, she recorded him on her phone. Later, she posted the video on social media and said he wanted her to feel uncomfortable.
After reaching home, she uploaded the video again to seek help, adding that police had not responded quickly. The video went viral and triggered outrage, with many demanding strict action.
Following this, Gurgaon police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 75(2) for sexual harassment and 78 for stalking of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Civil Lines police station. They also began searching for the suspect, described as wearing denim trousers, a check shirt, a mask, and a backpack. Officers are checking CCTV footage from the area to trace his movements.
Street harassment continues to be a major issue in Gurgaon and across the National Capital Region. Punjab and Haryana also face similar problems. In Punjab alone, more than 1,300 sexual harassment cases were reported in 2021.
To improve safety, the Punjab government started ‘Sewa Kendras,’ single-window centers for filing grievances, including harassment complaints. These centers aim to provide quick help, but rising cases show that more efforts are necessary.
