Tragic Accident in South Delhi claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman, Ali Begum, on Monday morning in the Dakshinpuri area. She was struck by an auto-rickshaw near Kali Building School around 7:20 AM. Her son-in-law rushed her to a hospital, but despite treatment, she did not survive.
Police soon arrived at the spot and found the auto-rickshaw abandoned. Sumit Kumar Jha, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), confirmed that a medico-legal case was filed at AIIMS Trauma Center. By 6 PM, doctors noted she could not give a statement, and later that evening, she passed away.
Legal action quickly followed. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with traffic safety and reckless driving. They also seized the vehicle. Further checks revealed that multiple people had exchanged the auto-rickshaw, but none completed the ownership transfers legally, raising concerns about gaps in the system.
Sadly, this was not the only fatal accident that day. In Lakshmi Nagar, an auto-rickshaw driver died after a Delhi Transport Corporation electric bus crashed into him. In South West Delhi, a speeding car killed a Zepto delivery worker riding an electric bike. On Ferozeshah Road in Central Delhi, a 20-year-old man lost his life when a car collided with his motorcycle.
These back-to-back incidents highlight the dangers on Delhi’s busy roads. Citizens are now calling for stronger road safety measures, including stricter traffic enforcement and awareness drives to improve driving practices.
